Turtle Cove and German Channel

Andy attended a service at the Korean Presbyterian Church. He went to the service by himself and since it was in Korean, he couldn't fully understand what they were saying. He did sit near a few younger members who spoke English and translated a few things and he could figure what was going on in the service. At the end of the service during the announcements, everyone turned and looked at him and started clapping. He has no idea what they said, but guesses they said something along the lines of him being a pastor from the U.S. visiting. After the service, he was invited to a pot luck lunch. The younger members helped him translate and he was able to learn about their church. He also enjoyed the food. After lunch, he went to PPR and spent the afternoon relaxing on the beach.

With Andy busy, it gave me the opportunity to join LB, Ryan, and Christy for a dive. We decided to go with Keith, the local dive guide we had dove with on the Irou wreck. This time our first dive was Turtle Cove, a dive I had done a few weeks ago with Katie but the rest of the group had not yet done. I was happy to return because it is a fun dive with a descent through a coral hole and then along a wall. It was a pretty relaxed dive just following the reef looking at the coral and fish. We saw a few sharks later in the dive. As we rounded the corner of the reef the current picked up and I had to focus a little more on staying with the group but it wasn't too difficult and a little fun. After a nice lengthy dive, we surfaced and found the boat. The trip with Keith was all locals and it was nice just hanging out with people living here and no tourists.

After lunch, our second dive was German Channel. Christy wanted to see rays and German Channel is an good bet to see them. It is a different type of dive because you go along the sandy bottom for the entire dive so there is a lot of macro sea life that is interesting. We didn't see any rays, but we saw some sharks and plenty of fish. Not really a memorable dive, but still better than a normal Sunday afternoon. After surfacing and loading the boat, as we drove through the manmade portion of German Channel we saw a huge manta ray. We could see a large dark outline of the ray and could the wings move as it swam. While we didn't get to see it below water, above water they are still cool.

After returning to Koror, I went to play in a soccer game. Dave is in a league and they needed an extra man so I've played in a few games. The team is not that good, we finished last in the league. It is still fun nevertheless and that game was our best game. The diving and the heat really sapped my energy, but I made it through the game. Andy met up with me at the game and then we headed home. We had dinner at my place and rested up for the next adventure.
