Sunset Kayaking

On Friday, LB, Dave, and I went kayaking after work. As a result of living so close to the equator (7 degrees north) we don't have long hours of sunlight in the summer and short hours in the winter. It stays fairly constant with the sun rising between 6-7 in the morning and setting 6-7 in the evening. I finish work at 4:30, leaving a few hours of sunlight. We headed right over after work and hopped in the kayaks. We covered the same ground as last weekend, but this time it was high tide in the late afternoon and that created a different look to the islands. As it was high tide, we were able to enter Jellyfish Cove, a small cove near our departure. This is not the famous Jellyfish Lake, but still its a protected cove with jellyfish in it. The water was like glass and once in the cove towards the back Jellyfish are visible. They are amazing as they floated along next to the kayak ranging in size from as small as a pencil tip to as big as a fist. Most were brownish in color. These are not totally stingless, but I touched a few smaller ones and felt no sting. Also in the cove was a sunken Japanese transport ship. All that is left is the bottom of the hull, but it is very visible and I kayaked right over top of it. We left the cove and continued along. As it grew later we rounded the corner of one of the islands and were treated to a spectacular sunset framed between the islands. A scattering of clouds enhanced the depth of color. We meandered around until the sun slipped down out of view. In the twilight enough light remained to tour a little bit before we turned back and we made to Sam's in the fading light.

Atta boy, TIM! Glad to hear you're not afraid of harassing the poisonous fauna. Petty zoos are for wusses.

P.S. Don't tell your mom about these activities.
P.P.S. Go Blue!
P.P.P.S. Go TIGERS!
P.P.P.P.S. Rar.
