Andy Departs

On Andy's penultimate day in Palau, he spent the morning reading and writing in his journal. He met me for lunch and we went next door to the Rock Island Cafe, an American style cafe that has great sandwiches and surprisingly good pizza. Andy liked their Hero sandwich and we had a tasty lunch. After work, Andy and I went to PPR. Andy enjoyed reading in the hammock while I went for a swim. The sunset was obscured by a brief rain shower, but a little rain is no cause for concern while in the hot tub. We left PPR and stopped for dinner at Bandidos, the Mexican restaurant. Back in the states, Bandidos would be considered mediocre Mexican food, but as the only place in town it seems better than it is. I find it a little odd going to a Mexican restaurant where I speak better Spanish than the staff. Andy liked it, especially, the margaritas and we had a nice dinner before heading home.

On Andy's last day, he spent the morning packing his stuff and doing last minute shopping and errands around town. We did lunch again at Rock Island. We had hoped Andy could go fishing one last time, but the Kregenow's boat was in the shop. Instead, Andy spent the afternoon at PPR. In the early evening, the court counsels had been invited by our dive guide Keith to join some other locals to play ultimate frisbee at PCC. Andy and I joined the Kregenows, Paul, and other locals to throw the disc around. It was nothing too competitive, but we had a fun time. Andy can throw pretty well and got a chance to run around a little before his long plane ride. Running around in this heat can be very draining, so by the end we were tired. The Kregenows invited us to join them at dinner at Bandidos, and even though we had just been there the night before we went again. After dinner, we played some cards until it was time for Andy to go to the airport. We packed his luggage and drove to the airport without getting a flat tire. Andy checked in and then we said our goodbyes. Andy's trip home was uneventful and he made it back to Michigan safely.

It was great to have Andy visit for nearly two weeks. We got to do a lot of fun stuff. Peleliu was the highlight, but I think Andy would count fishing a close second. I'm glad he was able to visit and share this experience with me.
