Snorkeling Kayangel

Our luck with the weather continued on Sunday and it was another beautiful, sunny day. For breakfast, Emily used the bread and eggs we had brought to make french toast. We had the morning to enjoy ourselves until we had to return to Koror on the state boat at 1 pm.
We walked up to the north end of the island to go snorkeling and spearfishing. The shores around Kayangel are mostly sand or seagrass, but at the north end there is coral. I swam out along a sandy area and then let the slight current drift me over the coral. While not large, it was a pretty area of coral with a selection of interesting fish including a massive grouper. I spent a long time floating along enjoying the warm water and marine life. Once the current took me past the coral I swam to the shore and walked back along the beach to the group sitting underneath the coconut trees.
Jirka was out with his speargun and missed out on the larger fish but was able to spear another needlefish. Phil and Pete used it and hermit crabs for bait on handlines from the shore, but were unsuccessful. I read on the beach for a little while until our time was up and we had to return to the house.
After packing our bags, we grabbed a quick lunch of fried fish and coconut. Emily's host family was very generous the entire weekend, including taking our bags to the dock for us and loading them on the boat. The boat was getting ready to leave and we were still at the house but since it is a such a small place and they knew we were coming they called the house to tell us they were ready to leave. We thanked the family and walked down to the dock and boarded the boat.
The boat trip ride was very smooth and at various stages each of us dozed off. We again stopped at Ollei and had a chance to stretch our legs. We arrived back in Koror in the middle of afternoon and then headed home. I met up with the group again for dinner down at Drop-Off to wrap up the fun weekend in Kayangel.
